KPS JOINERY AND CARPENTRY LTD A modern approach to traditional joinery

U Values, CE Marking and Part Q

CE marking is relevant for almost all external timber windows and doors that are required to comply with building regulations.
CE marking is the key indicator of a products compliance with EU (European Union) legislation and enables the free movement of products within the European market. The CE mark is specified by the EU but refers to the relevant country’s regulations. Within the UK, CE marking enforces compliance with building regulations Part L and refers to:
• The overall/full window u-value
• A Declaration of Performance (DOP)

Many joinery companies do not supply their external windows and doors with CE Marking, even though this is a legal requirement. At KPS Joinery we have invested in state of the art computer software to provide the required data to supply this information to our customers. This allows us to also supply U-Value certificates for our windows and doors, so you can ensure they meet the requirements specified by building control.

With the uncertainty around Brexit, some people are under the impression CE Marking will not be important if we leave the EU. The government has already set in place UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) which will take the place of CE Marking

The approved document sets out reasonable standards for doors and windows to resist physical attack by a casual or opportunist burglar by being both sufficiently robust and fitted with appropriate hardware. This approved document took effect on 1 October 2015 for use in England.

All windows and doors installed into new build properties have to be tested to PAS 24 Standard, meaning they have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they meet the specifications set out in the building regulations approved document.

At KPS joinery we have several windows and doors that are compliant to Part Q and we hold the appropriate certificates to supply these items for the new build market. So call us today for a free no obligation competitive quotation to ensure your new home looks its best
